GAME CAPTURE

26 July 2010.We started the morning off by meeting the crew from "Thabamanzi wildlife services".We had a quick briefing on the types of game capture u can do and which one we would be using.In our teams we went to set the sails,made sure all the polls were well hidden

The next morning was catch time,we got a mornings briefing and soon heard the copper,that day we caught 17kudu's,with the herds we had "cullers's" with in the herd which needed to be sorted and taken to the wild life center .We successfully transported 10 young kudu.
I was also lucky enough to fly in the chopper to go catch a baby kudu

We then re-built the boma more north on the farm to catch kudu,eland,blesbuck.we transported a fare amount of animals to "thabamanzi wildlife services"

Working in the work place

1. Theoretical learning
• Strong points: ONE OF MY STRONG POINTS IS THAT I HAVE A PASSION FOR THE NATURE,I LOVE LEARNING NEW THIS ABOUT THE BUSH
• CHANENGES:ALL THE ASSESSMENTS AND WORKBOOKS WENT WELL,BUT WE HAD TO DO TO MANT TO QUICK.MY BRAIN COULDNT TAKE ALL THE INFO IN BECAUSE AFTER SO LONG JUST WRITING,YOU CANT TAKE ALL THAT INFO IN AND STORE IT
• What did I learn :We had two weeks to learn enough info about the nature, during this time we done assessments on the work we had learnt. after the two weeks i could guide
• HOW CAN SONDELA MAKE IT BETTER:MAYBE IF WE CAN GO OUT INTO THE BUSH MORE OFTEN

2.ROSTER
• STRONG POINTS: THE ROSTER TOLD US WHERE TO BE EACH DAY
• CHALLENGES: EVERYTHING WENT WELL WITH THE ROSTER
• WHAT DID I LEARN: HOW TO WORK TO A ROSTER, AND BE ON TIME
• HOW CAN SONDELA MAKE IT BETTER: TAKE THEORY AWAY

3.WELCOMING
• STRONG POINTS: MY STRONG POINT IS THAT I CAN GET ON WITH GUESTS WELL BECAUSE OF MY BUBBLY PERSONALITY
• CHALLENGES: THE ONLY PROBLEM WE EVER HAVE AND THATS SELDOM IS WHEN THE STUDENTS DONT WORK TOGETHER,AND THE FOOD ALWAYS COMES TO MAIN GATE LATE.THE HOURS ARE TO LONG ON A FRIDAY
• WHAT DID I LEARN: HOW TO TALK TO GUESTS,HOW TO THINK ON MY FEET.HOW TO TAKE A GUEST AND MAKE THEM FEEL WELCOME
• HOW CAN SONDELA MAKE IT BETTER: HAVE PROPER ARANGMENTS FOR FOOD
4. CONSERVATION

• STRONG POINTS: CONSERVATION IS WHERE MY REAL PASSION LIES.IV GOT A GOOD UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT MUST BE DONE .
• CHALLENGES:WE HAD ALOT OF RAIN SO WE COULDNT DO MUCH BUT THE THINGS I DID I LEARNT FROM,WE NEED TO DO MORE CONSERVATION WORK.
• WHAT DID I LEARN: I WENT WITH TO GO PUT UP A OWL BOX AT THE MAKATO HOUSES.I CLOSED ROADS OFF.CUT GRASS
• WHAT CAN SONDELA DO TO MAKE IT BETTER:MAYBE PUT US IN LITTLE TEAMS AND GIVE US TASKS TO COMPLETE

5. WILDLIFE CENTER

• STRONG POINTS: I ENJOY WORKING WITH ANIMALS
• CHALLENGES: I DIDNT GET TO WORK MUCH IN THE WILDLIFE CENTER
• WHAT DID I LEARN: HOW TO FEED THE ANIMALS,THE PROCESS OF MAKING THE BOTTLES AND TAKING CARE OF THEM
• WHAT CAN SONDELA DO TO MAKE IT BETTER: NA

6.GUIDING
• STRONG POINTS:HOW TO DO GAME DRIVES,SPEAK TO MY GUESTS GIVING THEM GOOD INFORMATION AND KEEPING THEM ENTERTAINED WHILE IM THEIR TOUR GUIDE
• CHALLENGES: THE ANIMALS SEEMED TO HAVE GONE ON HOLIDAY WHEN THE GUESTS COME ON HOLIDAY
• WHAT DID I LEARN: watching the blesbuck mating, the guest that watched it with me really enjoyed it. you learn every time you go into the bush
• How can sondela make it better: get more guests to book game drives

7. After hour activities
• Strong points: that i enjoy working with guests and can be a good host
• Challenges: i find it that the hours are a bit to long when there is so little guests
• What did i learn: how to braai for guests
• What can sondela do to make it better: if we not needed they could let us rest

I have now stopped studying and now fall under the work place here at Sondela,at the beggining of the school holidays i got given a weekly planner of where i was going to be working each day.Iv taken down a old hide,i now know how to take down a hide and put it back again.

each day braught on new challengers and experiences,working in the conservation group was really full of new experiences.conservation work is what i really enjoy and have a thrieving passion for

Now that we finished with the "working in the work place",im now looking forward to studying and gaining knowledge of the bush

Meet the management

wednesday 17th 2010

We had meet the managment party,where the 1st years got together and planed the hole party got everything organised.We had the hotal managemet group cook for them,we had waiters and buttlers.i was in charge of the fire for the night.The chefs really spoilt us with the fine food

We planned and presented a song,that was a truely amazing time.a presantation was done about us and what we have learnt.

Bela Bela tour
A quick briefing of how to guide people started my day off,we lift and soon found ourself at the information center in warmbaths.A very well planned and neat place with friendly service..we soon found ourself at the Sondela offices in town shortly after that we walked to the graveyard saw some tomstones.blockhobuilt during the angola boer war,surprisingly it was well built and very safe.silos,what a sight they tower the sky when u stand next to them.a brief trip threw warmbaths location witch was surprisingly interesting,very neat

Level 1 first aid course

On THE 24^TH OF FEBUARY I TOOK PART IN A BASIIC LEVEL 1 FIRST AID COURSE,THE FIRST DAY WE WENT THREW A BOOK AND LERNT WHAT TO DO IN TIGHT SITUATION.cpr was a big part of the course.that night we were sent to bed studying the book.early the next morning we were studying again waiting for 9:00 o’clock to start it all off again.day 2 we learnt more first aid and waited to start the test,the test asked us 2questions about “what if a patient looses palse and breath??and how does the blood flow in the heart”,our practical was to give a dummy cpr in a situation

24 January my fellow students and myself started at Sondela.with a big smile and a passion behind me..we had a quick brief on rules and got to know one another
